Legal Custody

Legal custody of a child refers to the rights granted by a court to either of the parents, to make major decisions concerning the child.  Such decisions may pertain to the kind of education to be imparted to the child, the school the child will attend, the religious upbringing of the child and so on.  Usually the court grants legal custody to any one parent.  Sometimes the court may grant legal custody to the parents jointly, in such situations both the parents may have equal say in the upbringing of the child.
